The JavaFX Web Component with Per Bothner

Please see here for a photo and directions: http://www.oracle.com...

Event Description

The JavaFX Web Component

This session introduces the new JavaFX Web component, which brings modern Web standards and technologies to the JavaFX platform. You can embed a WebKit-based browser in your application and manage it with W3C DOM and other Java APIs. Take a tour of API and features, and then study a real-life interactive application.

After the main presentation, Per will reprise a lightning talk from the 2011 JVM Language Summit: "JavaFX2.0 GUI programming using Kawa".

Bio:

Per Bothner is an Oracle engineer working on the web component of JavaFX.

He joined Sun Microsystems in 2007 to work on the JavaFX Script compiler; he moved to the client (graphics) group after JavaFX Script was cancelled following the Oracle acquisition.

Per runs the Kawa open-source project (which is not Oracle-supported).

Kawa started in 1996 to compile Scheme into JVM bytecode; it was one of the first "scripting" language for the JVM, and is still among the fastest.

In the past Per has been active in GNU tools, working for Cygnus Solutions, and leading the GCJ project to compile
